Environmental Offsets

Updated: Dec 30, 2022

On October 24, 2022, The Taft Lecture Series Committee brought the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II to Cincinnati to deliver the presentation, "We are Called to be a Movement". It was a stirring presentation and event.

The EPA reports that commercial air travel accounts for 3% of the nation’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) production. The Episcopal Covenant to Care of Creation calls us to “adopt practical ways of reducing our climate impact and living more humbly and gently on Earth” and “use carbon offsets for travel” when air travel cannot be avoided. To this end, the members of Christ Church Cathedral’s Creation Care and Environmental Justice Ministry made a financial contribution ($100) to Faith Communities Go Green (FCGG) to offset the environmental impact of our speaker’s travel.

It is our hope that this contribution will also raise awareness about our responsibilities of stewarding God's creation and the practical steps we can take to be mindful of the impact we have by the decisions we make.
